Using your own API keys with Power Agents

In order to use your own API keys, you will need to have an active subscription to Power Agents. Users with active subscriptions will see an 'API Keys' link at the top of the Power Agents website. By using your own API keys for specific models with Power Agents, you pay the AI model providers directly and your Power Agents credits are not debited when making these requests. This is the least expensive way to use the Power Agents add-in. All AI model providers available within the Power Agents add-in provide easy to obtain API keys. Click on the provider names below to view instructions to obtain an API key from that provider. If you already have an API key from one of the providers, you can enter it back on the API Keys page: API Keys page
  1. Create an OpenAI Account:
    • Visit the OpenAI platform website at platform.openai.com.
    • If you don't have an account, click on "Sign Up" and fill in your details to create one. You'll receive a confirmation email; click the verification link to activate your account.
  2. Log In:
    • Once your account is set up, log in using your email and password.
    • Alternatively, you can log in using a Google or Microsoft account.
  3. Access API Keys:
    • After logging in, click on your profile icon or name in the top-right corner of the page to open a dropdown menu.
    • Select "View API keys" from the dropdown menu to access the API keys section.

  4. Create a New API Key:
    • In the API keys section, click on "Create new secret key" to generate a new API key.
    • Optionally, name your API key to keep track of its usage across different projects.
  5. Save Your API Key:
    • Once the key is generated, copy it immediately and store it in a secure location.
    • Note that you won't be able to view the key again after closing the window for security reasons.
  6. Set Up Billing:
    • In order to save money on Power Agents by using this key, you will need to set up billing with OpenAI so that you can pay them directly for your usage of the key.
    • Navigate to the billing section and add a payment method.
    • This is essential to ensure uninterrupted access once the initial credits are used up.
  7. Return to the API Keys page on this site to enter your OpenAI key:
    • Each model provider has its own 'Add Key' button on the API Keys page.
    • Click here to access the API Keys page and enter your OpenAI key.
